Bhaktacharan Das (1627-1813) is well known as the author of the poem ‘Mathura Mangal’. The monastery established by Bhaktacharan is still located in Sanpadar village near Rajsunakhla in Khordha district. In domestic life his name was Bairagicharan and after accepting the monk he became known as Bhaktacharan. Nothing special about him is known in all of his writings. He was the Vaishnava of the Madhvacharya community and his deity was Vrindavanchandra.He was the possessor of wonderful poetry. His writings included ‘Mathura Mangal’, ‘Gopamangal’, ‘Manashiksha’, ‘Kalakalebar Chautisha’ and ‘Manabodh Chautisha’. In addition, he is said to have authored a book entitled ‘Physics’ The books ‘Gopamangal’ and ‘Vaidyashastra’ are still unpublished.
