Chintamani Acharya was born in 1891,He is an eminent advocate of Cuttack and erstwhile ViceChancellor of the Utkal University from 1948 to 1951, was a writer of repute in the early part of this century.Apart from two novels such as Sadhana (1920) and Saphala swapna (1924), his two monographs Srikrushna and Jagannatha Dasa are measurable contributions to odia literature. His pre-eminence as an essayist is revealed in his Itihasa prasanga (1916) and Bhubaneswar (1949). His essays compiled in these books may be classified as literary, historical, archaeological and spiritual.
Many of these essays were first published in the leading magazines like the Utkal Sahitya, Mukura, etc. His close association as junior law practitioner with the Grand Old Man of odisha, Utkala Gouraba (The Pride of Utkal) Madhusudan Das, prompted him to write the preface of one of the famous biographies of odia literature Utkala Gouraba Madhusudan of Nabakishor Das. His estimation of Madhusudan Das was highly appreciated and this piece was read by secondary students for more than a decade. His book on the rearing of cattle, Gopalana, was popular in rural odisha. He was one time Co-editor of Panchamruta (1920), a magazine for children.
