Jagabandhu Singh was born in 1876,He is a noted writer and social worker, was born at village Bhubanpur in Puri district. After completing his law studies, he practiced at Puri. Later, he became a member of the Bihar and odisha Legislative Assembly for two terms. Apart from being a scholar and writer, he was also actively involved in many nationalist and philanthropic organizations like Utkal Sammilani, Puri Anathashram (Orphanage) and Puri Girls School.
His essays on the culture and history of medieval odisha were published in various journals of the time and received high acclaim. They were later compiled in a volume, titled Prachina Utkala. His other collections of essays are Prabandha-sara, Sri Krishna Bharat charitamrita and Grihalakshmi. He also tried his hand at translation and his odia renderings of the Bhagvatagita and Tilak’s Gita rahasya are considered commendable works.
His simple colloquial style and fresh treatment of the subject won him a large number of admirers, both among common readers and research scholars. Some of his other works are Jyotisharnaba, Subarna
