Raghunatha Parichha was born in 1795. He was a popular playwright, poet and musician, was born at Katakia Sahi (Modern Kabichandra Sahi) near Parlakhemundi in the district of Ganjam. His father was Chandrasekhar Panda and mother Haramani. His ancestors were entrusted with the service of Gopinath of Lehuri in the district of Srikakulam on the banks of the river Banshadhara. Hence their title was changed from Panda to Parichha. Parichha was proficient in Hindi, odia, Sanskrit and Telugu. He was an expert in music and dancing. He visited Srikhetra in his youth when on behalf of the Muktimandop Pandit Sabha of Puri, he was honoured with the title ‘Kabichandra’.His works include Gopinath Ballav natak (1868), Basudev natak, Krushna chandrama natak, Mukta natak, Sangita Ramalila, Sangita Krushnalila, Niti satak, Sangita ratnakar, Lakhyana chandrodaya and Radhamadhav vilasa. Most of his works remain unpublished till today.
His drama, Mukta celebrates the themes of love between Lord Krishna and the Gopis. Parichha’s plays employ an amalgamation of lofty prose and explicit lyricism. His chief aim was to transmit music through literature and literature through music. An abiding and arresting musicality becomes dominant in his works. His works abound in ‘alankaras’ and ingenuous narrative techniques.He wrote some bibliographya like Bishnu Charan Mohanty, Parla prativa (Parlakhemundi, 1991).
