Laxmidhar Nayak,was born in 1913 at village of Gudupailo near Delang in the district of Puri.He is poet, playwrighter, fiction writer, and essayist.He had to sacrifice his schooling at Jamshedpur for joining the freedom movement.He is the founder of Singhbhum Odia Sahitya Samaj ‘Manchabichira’ of Jamshedpur, and Cultural Akademi of Rourkela.Nayak happens to be the first ‘Ghazal’ writer of Odisha.
His early works retain the stamp of leftist ideology which advocated for a socialistic pattern of society.He was honoured by Nikhila Utkal Ganjam Kabi Sammelani (1934), Odisha Sahitya Akademi (1985),Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi (1991) and so many other cultural institutions.He was an ardent admirer of equality and liberty, but his later works are dominated and moulded by a sense of romanticism.
His significant works include Poetry: Birahini o anyanya kabita (1934), Uttara Basanta (1938), Se
(1940) Majdur (1942), Surajhankara (1952), Kholajharaka (1970), Ghazal jharna (1989) are very intresting.
And the Plays are like Dharmapatni (1940), Zamindar (1942), Lalchabuk (1942). Short stories: Kankal(1938), Gotieratira sathi (1945), Meghamalhar (1950). Travelogue: Bideshare sahedina (1986). Novels: Udbhranta (1934), Apurba prema (1940), Barshar shesa (1942), Sunapratima (1945), Sarbahara (1947), Se marinanhi (1947), He vijai vira (1948), Labanyabatira chori (1954), Kehi pramik: Kehi premika (1970), Belabhumira Anuradha (1975),Mo swapnara sahara (1981) Nayikabadhu (1982) and Sei mua pain (1982).
