Manoj Das, born in 1934 is an Indian writer who writes in Odia and English. In 2000, Manoj Das was awarded with Saraswati Samman. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2001, the fourth most noteworthy Civilian Award in India for his commitment in the field of Literature and Education. Kendra Sahitya Akademi has offered its most noteworthy honor (also India’s highest literary award) i.e Sahitya Akademi Award Fellowship. One of the yogis suddenly caught the immortal and popular king of Ujjain, his brother Hari, one day with an immortal fruit. Longevity and youthful giving and the dead-living are its qualities. The king took the fruit and gave it to his young queen. Three days later the beautiful dancer of the city brought the fruit and met the king again — in secret. The king was shocked. How did that unique fruit go to the dancer? What emerged from the investigation is shocking. She gave the fruit to the queen with the greatest love. The young queen gave her a gift to a young man named Amatya. Amatya was a lover of dancers. So the fruit fell into the hands of the dancer.

The discovery caused an earthquake in the king’s consciousness. How far can you rely on your own thinking? Is it possible to know the truth in the midst of mental, emotional meditation? The question-and-answer king appointed Anuj Vikramaditya, who deserved to rule, and took the vows of eternity. Of course there are fewer or more different versions of it. According to one version, the queen’s name is Pingala. According to another version, Pingala was his first queen – who died instantly after receiving false news that he had died while hunting the king. For a long time the legend seems significant to this author. Significantly, one day he found a cave in Haridwar that had been identified to date. The way in which the reader-community of Odisha has received this novel with interest and reverence even before it has received this recognition can be said to be extraordinary. This is an example of our true acceptance of great literature.
