Among the few revolutionary women who took an active part in the freedom struggle of India at the call of Mahatma Gandhi, Saraladevi  was one of those who took all the pleasures of life and sacrificed her national service. She was born on August 19, 1904, in the village of Narilo in the present-day Jagat Singhpur district to a distinguished family. Her father’s name is Basudev Kanungo, and her mother’s name is Padmavati. It was from early adolescence that Sarla’s personality became clear. “I will not accept society, I will not vote for the people,” was the language of Sarla’s heart. Sarala had the courage to implement this language.
