By the grace of Shri Jagannath, the third volume of ‘History of Oriya Literature’ is being published. In addition to the brief history of the origin and development of Vaishnavaism in Odisha, the book discusses some of the ancient Oriya literature of the pre-Panchasakha period. The glorious era of Oriya literature is the Panchasakha era.The book discusses the religion and literature of the five leading Vaishnava poets of Odisha. A lot of new information that has not been made public has been tried to be discussed in this book. Panchasakha Sahitya is a gem in the Oriya Sahitya. Their writings are uncountable. Many books of the Panchasakhas have been destroyed, and the books which are in manuscript form have not come to us. So in this case the discussion is limited to all the books that the Panchasakhas found with the help of various manuscript libraries. We hope that more information will be available in the future, and that our literary history will be brighter and brighter. The book deals mainly with the works of the five Vaishnava poets.
From time immemorial, Odisha has become a huge center of theological discussion centering on Shri Jagannath. A blazing witness to it is our knowledgeable Panchasakha literature. I don’t think there is such a huge saintly literature in modern Indian language and literature. We are not in our right place due to lack of publicity and publication.Only Shri Jagannath knows when all these weaknesses will be eradicated. In the fourth volume of history, many saintly followers of the Panchasakha have been composed until the nineteenth century, and in the fifth volume, the history of Oriya devotional literature is reviewed, along with the love writings of hundreds of devotees.
