After reading Suresh Padmanabh’s ‘Street Smart’ that was in my mind a group of ‘good books’. I sought the author’s permission as my interest in translating that into my mother tongue intensified for various reasons. The great author kindly acknowledged. But I couldn’t start this book all of a sudden because I was busy with another big job at the time. To say big work meant to translate Philip Meadows Taylor’s translation of Confessions of Thug was an Oriya translation work.When it was published, it became a 824-page book, published recently under the title ‘Thagar Confession’. The delay was true but I was not able to finish the work of this book.

I had the opportunity to read this many more times from the beginning of the translation to the final revision of the proof. I love it every time. I read it. That is why the hope of the book is so bright. Mr. Ajay Kumar Mishra has taken charge of the publication as well as encouraging me by praising the book. As a translator, it is a privilege for me. I am grateful to the original author of the book and the publisher of the Oriya translation. This book is about the leading merchant communities of India. The author describes some of the mysteries of the culture of their business, the secrets of success, the way of life, the philosophy of life, etc., in an interesting and simple way.The occasional presentation of short stories, anecdotes, prayers, quarrels, quotations, etc. has made the book more juicy. It is an inspirational book for life.
